The Bucks are making a bettor at BetMGM sweat just a little bit.
Someone wagered $150,000 on the Brooklyn Nets to win their second-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday afternoon. That bettor got the Nets at -500 to win the series as Brooklyn was up 2-0 following blowouts in each of the first two games.
That 2-0 lead turned to 2-1 Thursday night. Milwaukee got out to a huge first quarter lead and held off Brooklyn over the final two quarters to win 86-83 and jump back into the series.
Milwaukee won the game, thanks to strong performances from its stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. The two combined for 68 of Milwaukee’s 86 points. Jrue Holiday had nine and three other Bucks players combined for the other nine points.
Kevin Durant had 30 for the Nets while Kyrie Irving had 22. Bruce Brown scored 16 and thought he was going to have 18 when he drove to the lane for a potential game-winning layup with less than five seconds left. That layup didn’t even hit the rim and two free throws from Middleton forced Durant into a contested deep three to tie the game as the buzzer sounded.
Nets odds now at -400
Did that bettor make his or her wager too early? At -500, the bet of $150,000 is set to return $30,000 if the Nets close out the series. Had the bettor waited until after the Bucks’ Game 3 win, he or she could have gotten Brooklyn at -400 and made an extra $7,500.
That’s not that much more money — relatively speaking, of course. And there’s no telling how low the odds would be for the Nets had Brooklyn won Game 3. After all, NBA teams that go up 2-0 win approximately 94% of their series. The Clippers were just the 28th team in NBA history to win a series after going down 2-0 against Dallas in the first round.
Game 4 of the series with the Nets and Bucks is on Sunday. The Nets are currently favored by two points and the total is 229.5.
