Bruins injury report: Latest updates on Rask, Bergeron and more originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Bruins had a familiar face back at practice Monday.
Longtime goalie Tuukka Rask participated in the session. He has not signed a contract with the Bruins, but according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, Rask was an EBUG (emergency backup goalie).
The Bruins needed an EBUG because one of their two regular goaltenders, Linus Ullmark, was among several players who missed practice because of a non-COVID illness.
B’s acting head coach Joe Sacco told reporters after practice that Ullmark, Charlie Coyle, Tomas Nosek and Matt Grzelcyk all missed practice due to illness. Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy, who missed Saturday’s overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning with an illness, didn’t practice but skated on his own earlier Monday morning.
Moral victory? Why Bruins are headed in right direction after loss to Tampa
Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron also missed practice. He had work done on his nose after he broke it during Thursday night’s win over the Nashville Predators.
The B’s were scheduled to travel to Vancouver on Monday. They begin a three-game road trip through Western Canada against the Canucks on Tuesday night. But due to the illness going through the team, the Bruins will fly out to Vancouver on Tuesday instead.
Head coach Bruce Cassidy has missed the last three games and still is going through the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Sacco said Cassidy is feeling better but won’t travel with the team to begin the upcoming road trip. It’s possible Cassidy joins the Bruins later in the week. They play the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday and the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
