Apr. 29—COLLINS — The South Central baseball team scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning and held off the host Roughriders from there in a 7-6 win on Wednesday in a Firelands Conference matchup.

The Trojans improved to 9-8 overall and 7-3 in the FC with the victory, while the ‘Riders fell to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Jackson McCormack finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and Carson Music added two hits for the Trojans. Karl Ferber doubled with an RBI and scored twice, while Sam Seidel tripled with an RBI and also scored a run.

Eric Sanders singled with two RBIs and Kayden Hauler also singled for the Trojans, who got six innings on the mound from Blaine Wheeler. He allowed five earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Sanders pitched the seventh and allowed an unearned run.

For Western, Carson Roe was 3 for 3 with a double and scored three of his team’s six runs. Matt Jarrett singled and had two RBIs and Logan Wiegel doubled with a pair of RBIs. Chris Buchanan pitched all seven innings, as he finished with three strikeouts and four walks while allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits.

Plymouth 11, New London 0

NEW LONDON — The Big Red maintained sole possession of second place in the Firelands Conference with a five-inning run-rule win over the host Wildcats.

Zeth Goth threw five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits for Plymouth, which improved to 11-5 overall and 9-1 in the FC. He struck out 12 and walked one while throwing 75 pitches (56 strikes).

Luke Hamman was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for Plymouth, while Goth also tripled, had an RBI and scored three times. Ethan Gillum doubled and drove in a run, while Cole Wentz doubled and had three RBIs.

Hayden Liss singled twice and Logan Girton once for the Wildcats (3-9, 2-8).

OLIVESBURG — The Eagles scored five runs in the top of the first inning, but the Cougars (7-10, 3-6) countered with a nine-run bottom half of the first en route to a high-scoring FC win on Wednesday.

Trevor Schafer was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Eagles (0-14, 0-9). Daniel Smith was also 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI, while Gavin Hauler was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Austin Nichols was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Margaretta 11, Willard 7

WILLARD — The Polar Bears broke a tie after five innings with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings for an SBC Bay win over the host Crimson Flashes.

For Willard (5-15, 208), Ethan Rodriguez doubled twice and drove in a run, while Dylan Thompson was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Jake Cok was 2 for 3 and scored twice, while Ashton Ames singled with two RBIs and Austin Adelman doubled with an RBI.

Isaac Robinson started and went six innings for Willard, allowing 11 runs (four earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and six walks.

PORT CLINTON — The Chargers improved to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in the SBC Bay Division to stay in first place after Wednesday’s win over the host Redskins.

Noah Smith had two hits that included a double, and Clint Finnen also had two hits for the Chargers. Thomas Simon, Brady Barker, Dominic Dymond and Bryce Michaelis each singled and had an RBI.

Keegan Smith got the win, allowing four hits over his scoreless four innings with a strikeout and a walk.
