Auburn baseball felt invincible entering the College World Series after demolishing its regional opponents then eliminating the No. 3 overall seed on the road.

It took an SEC West underdog to bring the Tigers back down to earth.

Auburn’s 5-1 loss to Ole Miss was always within reach but rarely felt like it. Scoring was burden. Now Auburn (42-21) faces elimination Monday (1 p.m. CT, ESPN) against second-seeded Stanford (47-17), a juggernaut offense that ran into a wall against Arkansas in a 17-2 loss.

Auburn and Stanford have met four times in the College World Series. The Tigers have lost all four.
