Jun. 8—POLAND — Poland plated four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to earn a 6-4 win over York in the Class B South softball first-round playoff game Monday.
The seventh-seeded Knights (10-4) trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning. Sydney Lacombe singled and drove in two runs in the fifth, and Khloe O’Leary singled and drove in two runs in the sixth. Pitcher Atlantis Martin struck out five and earned the win.
Elly Bourgoine had two singles for York.
Poland next faces the winner of Tuesday’s game between No. 3 Morse and No. 14 Wells.
Luke Josephson and Mike Belleau each blasted two-run homers in an eight-run second inning as the fifth-seeded Flyers (9-5) rolled over the No. 12 Falcons in five innings in a Class C South first-round game at Portland.
Belleau finished with three hits, driving in six runs, for Waynflete/NYA (9-5). Liam Slocumb added three hits, including a double, while Will Jackson had two hits.
Josephson pitched, allowing one run on seven hits, for the Flyers, who will face No. 4 Lisbon in a Class C South quarterfinal on Thursday.
