Sep. 11—PARKSTON — Parkston had six takeaways, including five interceptions, at home to help the Trojans upset Class 9AA No. 1-ranked Platte-Geddes 27-15 Friday night. In the end the Parkston running game made the difference, rushing for 305 yards on 62 carriers, in comparison to Platte-Geddes 20 carries and only 31 yards.
Luke Bormann and Ethan Poore each pulled down two interceptions for the Trojans. Parkston’s Cole Prunty put up an impressive 175 rushing yards on 27 attempts and 1 touchdown. Kaleb Weber threw a perfect 3 for 3, picking up 42 yards and one touchdown pass.
Platte-Geddes held an 8-7 halftime lead, despite three first-half turnovers. Their Quarterback Dawson Hoffman was 10-for-23, passing 160 yards and 1 touchdown. Grayson Hanson recorded 67 yards on six receptions, catching one touchdown pass.
Platte-Geddes (2-1) hosts Colman-Egan on Sept. 17. Parkston (2-2) travels to Gregory on Sept. 18.
MCM 36, EPJ 20
ELK POINT — McCook Central/Montrose tallied 448 all-purpose yards and 23 first downs to hand Elk Point-Jefferson its first loss of the season on Friday.
Trevor Hansen had 34 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns for MCM. Gavin Gordon went 18-of-31 for 192 yards, one touchdown and one interception, along with 11 carries for 55 yards and one touchdown. Cody Miles had six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown.
For the Huskies, Noah McDermott went 14-of-19 for 159 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Benjamin Swatek had 11 carries for 29 yards and one touchdown while Garrett Merkley scored a 85-yard touchdown on a kickoff return in the second quarter.
MCM (3-0) plays Sioux Valley on Sept. 17. EPJ (2-1) travels to Beresford on Sept. 17.
Gregory 31, Kimball/White Lake 6
GREGORY — Gregory racked up 372 yards of total offense and 19 first downs to roll past Kimball/White Lake on Friday.
Gregory’s Rylan Peck went 6-of-12 passing for 146 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 80 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Owen Hansen ran 18 times for 93 yards and had 68 yards receiving with a touchdown rushing and receiving. Eli Fogel led the team defensively with nine tackles and had 60 yards receiving.
For the Wildkats, Holden Havlik went 8-of-19 passing for 51 yards and one interception. He also had 22 rushing yards and one touchdown, as KWL was kept to 103 yards of offense. Levi Nightingale led the team in tackles with 11 while Jaxon Christensen added 10.5 tackles of his own.
Gregory (3-1) hosts Parkston on Sept. 18. Kimball/White Lake (2-1) hosts Bon Homme on Sept. 17.
Avon 60, Alcester-Hudson 24
AVON — Avon rushed for 479 yards and scored 24 points in the second quarter in a win over Alcester-Hudson on Friday.
Brady Bierema had 17 carries for 208 yards and four touchdowns for the Pirates. Riley Rucktaeschel went 2-of-3 passing for 12 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 105 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. Tyler Tjeerdsma had one carry for 44 yards and scored a touchdown as well.
For the Cubs, Mateo Kleinhans rushed for 48 yards, while Jovey Christensen had 14 carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Evan Brown ran five times for 33 yards and one touchdown.
Avon (3-0) plays Burke on Sept. 17. Alcester-Hudson (0-3) hosts Centerville on Sept. 17.
WWSSC 45, Jim River 6
FORESTBURG — Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central rushed for 291 yards to hand Jim River its first loss of the season on Friday.
Carter Grohs had 10 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns while Hayden Beigh ran for 41 yards and one touchdown. Blake Larson went 3-of-7 passing for 60 yards and a touchdown. Both Mason Schelske and Clay Olinger each had one interception for the Blackhawks’ defense.
For the Trappers, Dawson Bietz went 3-of-8 passing for 19 yards. Logan Sayler had seven carries for 29 yards. Defensively, Turner Nicholson and Stephen Johnson had one interception each.
WWSSC (2-1) travels to Wagner on Sept. 17, while Jim River (2-1) hosts Winner on Sept. 17.
Canistota/Freeman 46, Viborg-Hurley 18
VIBORG — The passing connection of Tage Ortman to Will Ortman linked up three times Friday night to help Canistota/Freeman to a road nine-man football victory.
The Ortmans had passing touchdowns of 1, 15 and 18 yards for the Pride, which outgained V-H 406-228. Tage Ortman had a rushing touchdown and a 9-for-14 passing game for 117 yards through the air. Will Ortman finished with 73 receiving yards, and Isaiah Robertson rushed for 134 yards on 15 carries and had two touchdowns. Noah Kleinsasser added 78 yards and a touchdown for the Pride.
Viborg-Hurley’s Connor Kessler rushed 26 times for 95 yards and Chance Schollerman was responsible for a passing and rushing touchdown each.
Canistota/Freeman (2-2) hosts Garreston on Sept. 17. Viborg-Hurley (1-3) plays Hanson on Sept. 17.
Wagner 21, MHH 20
WAGNER — Wagner scored the lone points of the second half on a 48-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Honomichl to Chris Nelson in the third quarter to edge Miller/Highmore-Harrold, 21-20, on Friday night.
Honomichl went 9-of-14 passing for 135 yards and two touchdowns, adding 71 yards rushing. Nolan Dvorak had five receptions for 69 yards and a score to go with 12 total tackles (nine solo). Chris Nelson had 124 total offensive yards and two total touchdowns for the Red Raiders.
The Rustlers were paced by 162 rushing yards and a touchdown by Tate Hoffman. Trey Knox was 6-of-11 passing, but was intercepted three times.
Wagner (4-0) hosts Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central on Sept. 17. Miller/Highmore-Harrold (1-3) plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Sept. 18.
Gayville-Volin 43, Corsica-Stickney 14
CORSICA — The Gayville-Volin Raiders recorded 174 rushing yards to remain undefeated as they rolled past Corsica-Stickney on Friday.
Nate Quatier led the Raiders to the victory, rushing for 89 yards on nine carries and passing 6-of-10 for 72 yards. Andrew Gustad caught two receptions for 40 yards and one touchdown.
The Jaguars’ Caden VanDrongelen had 58 rushing yards on 15 carries. Additionally, Tyson Wentland was 10-for-19 passing for 126 yards. Wentland and Carter Wright combined for both of Corsica-Stickney’s touchdowns.
Gayville-Volin (3-0) hosts Avon on Sept. 24. Corsica-Stickney (1-3) travels to Colome on Sept. 17.
Dell Rapids 42, Chamberlain 14
DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids was able to pick up its second win of the season against Chamberlain, recording a total of 302 offensive yards.
The Quarriers’ Austin Henry passed for 153 yards and threw two touchdowns, going 6-of-7. Landon Ruesink caught both touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown as well. Brayden Pankonen chipped in with an interception touchdown return and an 11-yard rushing touchdown.
For Chamberlain, Cruz Soulek was 11 for 26 passing for 181 yards and a touchdown.
Dell Rapids (2-1) hosts Lennox on Sept. 17. Chamberlain (0-3) hosts Tri-Valley on Sept. 17.
Wolsey-Wessington 53, Bon Homme 12
TYNDALL — Wolsey-Wessington scored 20 points in the second and third quarter to secure a win on the road on Friday.
Blaze Herdman passed for three touchdowns for the Warbirds while Marrian Gohn returned an interception for a touchdown and rushed for two touchdowns.
For the Cavaliers, Easton Mudder had 56 passing yards and one touchdown while Jackson Caba had 22 rushing yards and one touchdown. Logan Winckler added 12 tackles and Isaac Crownover added 11 tackles.
Wolsey-Wessington (2-1) plays Britton-Hecla on Sept. 17. Bon Homme (1-2) travels to Kimball/White Lake on Sept. 17.
Howard 26, Chester Area 8
HOWARD — In a clash of unbeatens, Howard was able to come up on top and maintain their undefeated season, while Chester picked up their first loss of the season.
Howard’s running game carried them to the victory, as all four scores were rushing touchdowns. Griffin Clubb started the scoring for the Tigers with a 5-yard rush. Karsyn Feldhaus added 112 yards on 13 carries, scoring three touchdowns to bring home the game. Ty Beyer added 105 yards on 12 carries, as well as 8 tackles.
Chester’s Stratton Eppard went 11 for 22 passing 107 yards in the game. Jovi Wolf caught a 52 yard touchdown from Eppard to bring the Flyers within two scores in the third quarter.
Howard (4-0) visits Irene-Wakonda on Sept. 17. Chester (3-1) is idle next week.
