TAMPA — Veteran receiver Antonio Brown sprained his ankle during Thursday’s game in Philadelphia and joined a who’s-who list of sidelined Bucs during Wednesday’s full-pads workout.
Also absent: inside linebacker Lavonte David (high-ankle sprain), tight end Rob Gronkowski (ribs), cornerback Richard Sherman (hamstring), outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder/hand) and tight end O.J. Howard (ankle).
Safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (concussion), sidelined the last two games, suited up and was spotted fielding some punts. Though listed as a full participant on the team’s official injury report, Coach Bruce Arians said Winfield still hasn’t cleared the concussion protocol.
“He’s still got to get through the independent neurologist,” Arians said. “Putting pads on, putting a helmet on, get all that stuff done so he can hopefully pass.”
The Bucs are without their two starting cornerbacks, who are on injured reserve: Sean Murphy-Bunting (dislocated elbow) and Carlton Davis (quad). In addition, Sherman suffered a hamstring strain attempting to play his third game in 12 days against the Eagles and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
Of the others, Arians betrayed the most optimism about David, injured in the Bucs’ Oct. 10 home win over the Dolphins. Following Wednesday’s practice, Arians indicated David’s progress has been “really good.”
“He’s one of the guys I’ve got my fingers crossed for,” he added.
