Aug. 23—WILLMAR — Craig Popp emerged as the winner Sunday of the Eagle Creek Golf Course’s 2021 Match Play Championship.
Popp defeated Travis Michelson 5 & 4 to earn the championship. Popp beat Ryan Nelson 4 & 2 in the semifinals after getting a first-round bye.
Michelson advanced to the championship by beating Adam Happe 7 & 5 in the semifinals.
Happe earned a match with Michelson by beating Erik Rannetsberger 3 & 2.
In the Senior Flight, Jim Schrammel beat Howie Swift 6 & 5. Schramel had defeated Jon Grabow in the semifinals 6 & 5. Swift knocked off Bob Poe 3 & 2 in his semifinal to earn a crack at Schrammel.
In the Super Senior Flight, Larry Broberg won the championship by beating Gary Hern 2 & 1. Broberg advanced by knocking off Stan Carlson in the semifinals, 1 up. Hern beat Rod Olson 2 up.
In the Ladies Flight, Lori Jacobson won the title by beating Jodi Mottinger 4 & 2. Jacobson beat Ana Wisocki 9 & 8 in the semifinals. Mottinger beat Kessa Mara 4 & 3 to advance.
Peter Hannig won the consolation championship with a 4 & 2 victory over Corey Nelson.
In the Super Senior consolation, Doug Lindblad defeated Neil Tagawa 6 & 4.
