Jun. 26—ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria piled up 16 hits and Ethan Davis struck out eight batters in a seven-inning 13-2 Sunshine League amateur baseball win over Mount Vernon on Friday.
Alexandria takes sole possession of first place in the Sunshine League with the win.
Davis gave up six hits, two runs (one earned run) and issued no walks on 94 pitches. Offensively, Jordan Gau finished 4 of 4 and jumpstarted the offense with a two-run homer in the first inning. Peyton Smith went 3 of 4 and drove in two runs. Adam Durfee, Tyson Gau, Pierce Smith and Jerrod Zens each had two hits. Durfee drove in three runs, while Tyson Gau knocked in a run. Chris Marek finished with one hit and Matt Wilber had two RBIs.
For Mount Vernon, Spencer Neugebauer, Eric Giblin, Briggs Havlik, Rylee Deinert, Brady Albrecht and Hunter Pranger each had a hit. Starter Baley Miller took the loss after allowing four hits, two earned runs and had one strikeout in 1/3 of an inning. Havlik, Bradley Dean, Albrecht and Pranger each pitched relief innings.
Alexandria (10-1, 7-1 Sunshine League) plays at Platte on Sunday in another Sunshine League contest. Mount Vernon (10-3, 6-2 Sunshine League) hosts Redfield Dairy Queen on June 29.
