This is the game that will determine whether the Green Run Stallions are for real.

The third-ranked Stallions (2-0) beat up Tallwood in the first game 56-7, but faced a tough challenge from Kempsville last week before winning 21-13.

Now, Green Run travels to play perennial power No. 13 Salem, the defending Beach District champions. There was no district title awarded in the spring.

“We are looking forward to this week’s matchup versus Salem,” Green Run coach Brandon Williams said. “We knew going into this season this will be a marquee game, so we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Green Run hasn’t beaten Salem since 2010, losing 13 straight.

But this team is strong led by quarterback Xavier Davis, who has completed 37 of 52 passes for 544 yards, seven touchdowns with no interceptions. His top targets are Tayon Holloway (14 receptions, 198 yards, 3 TDs), Keylen Adams (13 receptions, 176 yards 3 TDs) and Dyshaun Newby (6 receptions 111 yards, TD).

The running game is led by Sammy Wiggins, who has rushed for 186 yards.

Defensively, the Stallions are led by linebackers Zakai Hall (16 tackles) and Tyler Baker (13 tackles). The secondary is led by Wayne Washington (three interceptions) and Christian Parham (13 tackles).

The SunDevils (2-0) hope to keep their streak going, led by quarterback Angelo Liotta, who has completed 18 of 33 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns. His leading receivers are Jahrell Walton (4 receptions for 99 yards, TD) and Evan Millar (4 receptions, 74 yards) and Emmanuel Taylor (4 receptions, 50 yards). Keimar Carter-Gatlin leads the rushing attack with 98 yards.
