In a surprise turn of events, 2023 four-star wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. has decommitted from the University of Oklahoma. Moore, who is the No. 48 player in the 2023 class according to 247Sports composite rankings will be reassessing his future as he heads into his senior season at Los Alamitos High School in California.

Moore made himself a fan favorite after reaffirming his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners in the wake of Lincoln Riley’s departure. DeAndre Moore is teammates of former Oklahoma commits Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon who flipped to USC.

Moore told Greg Biggins of 247Sports back in December:

I’ve been wanting to go to Oklahoma since the 7th grade. I don’t know how many people know that but it has always been my dream school and it was never about the coaching staff for me. I liked coach Riley, don’t get me wrong. I was looking forward to playing for him but that was more the cherry on top for me. I was going to Oklahoma because I love the school, and that’s still the case for me. – Moore via 247Sports

247Sports spoke with Moore about backing off of his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners and the four-star wide receiver mentioned that he hadn’t spoken with Brent Venables or Jeff Lebby yet, even though he’s remained in constant contact with DeMarco Murray.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been making strong headway in their efforts to build up a 2023 recruiting class that saw several commitments disappear after Riley left for USC. Moore is the sixth player to decommit from the 2023 recruiting class in the last couple of months.

Oklahoma could certainly get back in the game on DeAndre Moore before national signing day a year from now, but the perceived slight by not meeting with Moore might be enough to keep him looking elsewhere for his college football future.
